Fuel consumption calculator

Work out litres per 100 km, kilometres per litre and cost per km from one fill, then estimate the fuel for a planned trip. Nothing is stored or sent.

From your last fill

Your result

Litres per 100 km–
Kilometres per litre–
Fuel cost per km–
Price per litre–
Fuel for the planned trip–
Fuel cost of the planned trip–

How it works

  1. Fill the tank, drive, then fill it again to the same level. Enter the litres added and the kilometres since the last fill.
  2. Litres per 100 km is the litres divided by the kilometres, times 100. Kilometres per litre is the other way round.
  3. The trip estimate uses that consumption for the distance you enter, so it is only as good as the figure you start with.

What to do with the result

  • ✓ Work out the figure after every fill and note what is normal for each vehicle and route.
  • ✓ A sudden rise of about a fifth over the usual figure is a reason to check the vehicle, the route and the fuel record.
  • ✓ Consumption changes with load, traffic, road and driving style, so treat a trip estimate as a guide.

Need more than this?

This free tool covers the basics. A calculator works one fill at a time, and it depends on drivers noting every fill honestly. If you want more, we can help with:

  • ✓ Fuel monitoring sensors that show the tank level over time
  • ✓ Vehicle tracking, so fuel use can be matched to trips
  • ✓ Alerts when something looks wrong

Questions about this tool

Why must the tank be filled to the same level?

Only then do the litres you add match the distance since the last fill.

What is a normal figure?

It depends on the vehicle, its load and where it drives, so compare each vehicle with its own usual figure instead of a general number.

How do I keep a record over time?

Use our free fuel log, which works out the figure for every fill and flags any that are well above average.

Can fuel be monitored automatically?

Yes, with fuel monitoring sensors. HopeLynx supplies and installs vehicle tracking devices with fuel monitoring add-ons.
